Annual Scholarship Awards Luncheon

One of the Foundation’s signature events is its Annual Scholarship Awards Luncheon which now awards $6,000 scholarships to deserving inner-city high school seniors from Crenshaw, George Washington Preparatory and Susan Miller Dorsey high schools.  The Foundation has had the honor of featuring prominent keynote speakers such as basketball legend & six-time NBA MVP Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, former Los Angeles city Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and LAUSD Superintendent Dr. John E. The GLAAACC Education Fund & Foundation’s (GLAAACC Foundation) 19th Annual Scholarship Awards Luncheon was held on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at the Microsoft Reserve in Playa Vista.  The GLAAACC Foundation awarded twelve high school graduates of Class of 2018 from Crenshaw, Jordan, George Washington Preparatory and Susan Miller Dorsey high schools with scholarship funds totaling $41,500 to assist with their college tuition.  The scholarship awards luncheon featured reception was augmented by remarks given by Supervisor Mark Ridley Thomas. In addition, LINX awarded a check to GLAAACC for a 6 year donation of $120,000. We were very excited and pleased with all the support we received from the sponsors of the community and look forward to an even greater impact in 2019.

On behalf of the GLAAACC Education Fund & Foundation Board of Directors, we would like to thank all who attended and supported the 19th Annual Scholarship Awards Reception.  We would also like to extend a warm thank you to LINX, Southern California Gas Company, Wells Fargo, Plenary, Union Bank, CIT, LADWP, Microsoft, and Northrop Grumman for also sponsoring scholarships.  We would also like to thank OUTFRONT media for providing complimentary billboards to display our 2018 recipients within their community.

We appreciate Congresswomen Karen Bass, Senator Holly Mitchell , Supervisor Mark Ridley Thomas, Assembly Member Autumn Burke and Assemblyman Mike Gipson for providing certificates to our recipients.

Congratulations once again to our 2018 scholarship award recipients!  The event was well attended and a great success!

GLAAAC Education Fund and Foundation hosted their first annual Celebrity Waiter and Waitress Luncheon at the California Science Center. The objective of the luncheon is to create a unique and innovative lunchtime auction comprised with key business and community leaders. Guests are invited to sit at their table and are waited on by their Celebrity Waiter host. The waiter encourages their table guests to bid on auction items and “tip” their waiter throughout this fun-filled, themed event. All proceeds are raised for the organizations’ scholarship recipients.
